Blokko: a block puzzle that is trying to be calm

Place the pieces, clear the lines, unlock a new palette. A cozy grid puzzle with power-ups, themes and a global board.

Most grid puzzles are built to make you anxious — countdowns, streak meters, a board that punishes hesitation. Efe Canbolat built Blokko as the opposite: the same tight placement puzzle, wrapped in a palette and a pace that let you put the phone down mid-game.

01Cozy as a constraint, not a coat of paint

Blokko is a block-placement puzzle: three pieces sit in the tray, you drop them onto the grid, and completed lines clear. The rules are strict — the board fills fast and a careless placement costs you.

What changes is everything around the rules. There is no timer and no turn clock. The palette is warm cream and terracotta rather than the high-saturation contrast most puzzle games use to manufacture urgency. Efe Canbolat treated the mood as a design constraint the mechanics had to survive, not decoration applied afterwards.

02Three power-ups, and an honest word about the ads

When the board locks up, three power-ups open it back up: Hammer removes a single cell, Bomb clears an area, and Swap exchanges the pieces in your tray. Each is limited, so using one is itself a decision.

Blokko is free and ad-supported through Google AdMob — you can earn a power-up by watching a short video, or buy a pack outright and never see one. That makes it the exception among Efe Canbolat's products, most of which carry no advertising at all. It is stated plainly here because a puzzle game that quietly monetises attention is exactly the thing the rest of this work avoids.

03Themes you play your way into

Progression is cosmetic rather than mechanical. Cocoa is the palette you start with; Sage unlocks at 500 points, Coral after five games, Plum at 2500. Nothing you unlock makes the game easier — it just changes how it feels to sit with.

A global ranking board runs alongside it for players who want the competitive read. No account is required to play, and the game is rated for all ages.

Blokko is designed and built by Efe Canbolat under CNBLT Studio.
